ChatGPT can help turn source material into an outline, draft slide text and review a presentation. OpenAI’s newer collaborative Slides feature is rolling out to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts with Space access. Availability and desktop features vary, so verify what your own account supports.

A useful presentation starts with a clear purpose, not a slide template. ChatGPT can help turn notes into a structure, find gaps in an argument and draft concise slide text. OpenAI has also introduced a collaborative Slides feature, but it is rolling out to eligible accounts rather than appearing for everyone at once.

What can you use it for?

  • Turn rough notes or source documents into a proposed outline.
  • Help decide what belongs on each slide and what should stay in the speaker notes.
  • Rewrite dense wording for a particular audience.
  • Suggest a clearer order, a stronger opening or a concise summary.
  • Review a draft for jargon, unsupported claims, inconsistent terms and accessibility issues.

OpenAI’s current help describes ChatGPT Slides as an editable presentation that you can refine with ChatGPT and, where available, collaborate on with teammates. The feature is available on eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise plans with Space access, and is still rolling out. If you do not see it, your account may not have received it yet.

ChatGPT for PowerPoint is a separate experience from collaborative Slides. OpenAI’s documentation describes a PowerPoint sidebar that can help create, revise and understand presentation content. Features, plan access and desktop requirements can change, so check the current help page before following a particular menu path.

Start with a useful five-slide brief

Give ChatGPT the audience, purpose, evidence and constraints. Ask for an outline first so you can correct the story before drafting slides. For example:

Copyable prompt
Help me plan a five-slide presentation for [audience] about [topic]. Its purpose is to [decision or action]. Use only the facts in the notes I provide. Propose a title and one main point for each slide, list any claims that need checking, and suggest speaker notes. Do not invent statistics, sources or company capabilities. Ask me questions where the brief is unclear.

Once you approve the outline, ask for a first draft. If you use a slide-creation feature, describe the presentation’s structure and style in plain language, and provide source material or a template only if you have the right to use it.

Check the result before presenting

  1. 1Open every cited source and confirm that it supports the claim on the slide.
  2. 2Check dates, calculations, names and figures against the original material.
  3. 3Remove claims, quotations and references that cannot be verified.
  4. 4Make sure the first slide explains why the presentation matters and the last slide makes the next step clear.
  5. 5Check text size, contrast, chart labels and reading order.
  6. 6Open the exported file on the presentation computer and test fonts, images, animations and links.

A fluent slide is not necessarily a correct one. Use ChatGPT to speed up planning and editing, then use your own judgement—and the original evidence—to decide what the audience should trust.

Plain-English Takeaway

Use AI to organise and draft a presentation, not to certify its facts. Check whether the specific Slides feature is available on your account, verify every important claim and review the exported deck on the device where it will be shown.
